Cutout Bathing Suits

Many of you have private messaged me about this black bathing suit I wore on a recent trip to Mexico.  I bought it from South Moon Under and they still have it in stock. Yay! It fits true to size and has a major slimming effect — you will love it!  The cutouts are right on trend and the seam detailing along the sides help to whittle the waistline,  making you feel your best even on a bad day.  Believe me, after eating guacamole and chips every day in Cancun, this is exactly what I needed at the end of our vacation. This suit hit the mark where slimming details are concerned and I have worn it several times since Mexico … and that is a successful purchase in my book. Hope you love it too! xoxo

p.s. how cute are my friends bathing suits too?!? I love having fashionable (and fun) friends 🙂

This is my husband, Jim.  I haven’t introduced him to my blogging community yet because he doesn’t really like to be on social media that much.  I wasn’t planning on posting pics until I got requests from you and these are the only photos I have so … hello Jim!

These girls are a bundle of fun, I tell you. Fun, fun and more fun!

We had the best time together with just our husbands and us. No kids.  Have you taken time out for yourself lately? Taken a trip with your husband and your friends? If not, I highly recommend it.  It was fab.

Oh heyyyy! Getting goofy with my girl.

Box of Style

By now, many of you have heard of Rachel Zoe’s ‘Box of Style’. For those of you who haven’t heard, strap on your seat belts. This seasonal box ships four times a year and contains items which are specifically curated by stylist Rachel Zoe. Think caftans, leather goods, beauty and hair products, jewelry, sunglasses and more. You never know what you’re going to get until the “Hero Item” is revealed but I can guarantee you this — you will not be disappointed. This box of style, in my opinion, is the best on the market in terms of ‘subscription’ boxes and is, by far, the greatest bang for your buck. The items Rachel chooses are, simply put, fabulous and flawless.  The best news? You will receive $10 off your first box when you use this link 👉🏻Box of Style/ChicbyAlisonRose.

Here are a few photos of me wearing the entire summer box of style captured by my amazing friend and photographer, Lindsey Clark (@takeitoutside). I used the Ouai (pronounced ‘way’) Wave spray to create texture in my side braid.  Since then I have used it every day for the most effortless beachy waves under the sun.  The smell is A-MAZING and it works like a lightweight mousse, leaving your hair with soft waves that are fluid and sticky free.  This will definitely be a staple in my beauty bag from now on!

Glasses (by YHF Los Angeles), Necklace/Ring set (by LuvAJ), Caftan by (Michael Stars). All pieces are part of the summer Box of Style.

Hat: Madewell (my own). The best part about this hat is that you can roll it up, tie a hair band around it and throw it in your suitcase. Get it here (it’s on sale!)

Look at the lariat necklace and ring (middle finger) from Luv AJ!  I’ve already worn mine several times layered with my other gold jewelry and yep, you’ve guessed it, this is also part of the summer Box of Style 🙂

When Spring Plays Hide and Seek

Any of you who live in the Northeast know that this spring season has been playing a very long and very taunting game of hide and go seek.  One week it’s 80 degrees and the next week it’s 50 degrees, which makes getting dressed complicated.  Especially when we are yearning for the warmth from the sun and the ability to dress in off-the-shoulder tops and toe-baring sandals.  Well, there is a solution to the madness and there are, in fact, ways of dressing appropriately for this insanely transitional weather we have going on.

Take a look at this outfit I have styled here, for example.  I pulled one of my favorite asymmetrical, off the shoulder shoulder shift dresses out of my closet and paired it with my over the knee suede boots.  Who cares that I had to get them out of storage because I was overzealous in putting away all my “winter” gear.  I’ll grab these bad boys any day of the year if the weather permits.  And if that means that I have to wear them in May, when it’s suppose to be at least 70 degrees, than fine.  I’ll do it.

Side note: My friend and photographer is a photojournalist by profession and is as creative as they come.  Since we had her house and her gorgeous daughter on hand for this shoot, we got creative and had so much fun pretending like we dress like this even as we feed our magazine worthy children honey bunches of oats 🙂 Not true obvi.  But I have worn this dress and boots several times — out to dinner, to a new years eve party, and to a Christmas party.  Just not when I’m serving my family food and arranging flowers.

I love how my skin plays peek-a-boo in this photo.  That’s precisely why I love OTK boots so much.  They look wildly chic over skinny jeans and tastefully sexy with a dress.

This last photo is all about the ear cuff and cocktail ring.  Ear cuffs are MAJOR this season and are so different from what we’ve seen in the past few years.  I love changing things up and wearing trends so I jumped on this one early.  I’ve attached links to some ear cuffs here and here as well as transitional spring dresses here and here  over the knee boots here and here.  Happy Shopping 🙂

Fringe Benefits

If you have followed my social media accounts for more than one day, you know how much I love fringe.  Similarly, if you have shopped in any store this spring, you know that fringe is on EVERYTHING this season; bags, shoes, clothing and accessories.  Fringe is the one adornment that, in my opinion, does not get old.  And I can’t get enough.  Check out the movement on this fringe skirt.  Believe me, I know you will not be twirling and dancing on a daily basis like you see me doing in these photos but fringe has such a playful vibe even through basic movements like walking.

Here I am wearing a fabulous fringe skirt I found on the website Forward by Elyse Walker.  It was on MAJOR sale (two of my very favorite words) so I scooped it up and wore it with another one of my favorite pieces; a body suit by Twenty, which I found on sale at Revolve Clothing.  Whether I’m shopping online or in a store, I always take my time searching in the sale section first; I often find amazing, quality pieces in the sale section at a fraction of the retail cost.  If you’re like me and enjoy shopping on a regular basis, this is the most logical, economical way to shop.  I have linked a similar Tamara Mellon skirt (also on sale! Yay!) here. I’ve also linked an awesome bodysuit suitable for spring/summer here.

I’ve posted a few more photos below since I want to bring attention to the 90’s trend, which is having a major moment right now; chokers.  OMG.  I can’t believe this trend is back but I love it!  I’ve worn this gold choker several times and I do not plan on storing it away any time soon. I’ve worn it alone or layered with other necklaces and, in my opinion, it elevates my outfit every time.  It was more versatile than I thought it would be through the winter and into spring…and I’m excited to continue wearing it through the summer.

Below are links to a bunch of fringe options to shop for spring/summer.  I’ve linked many different items here, from shoes, bags and necklaces to skirts, bathing suits and hair accessories — so please bare with me! I couldn’t stop linking since I’m a bit obsessed with this trend! Happy Shopping 🙂

Resort Wear

imageOk guys. Here it is.  A crop top and high-waisted skirt combination in an “of the moment” flowery print.  It could not have been better for our recent trip to Mexico.  It is so comfortable, flirty and fun — perfect for any warm weather vacation.  And the best part? It’s on MAJOR sale right now (links below).  I’ve also attached links for chokers since this 90’s staple has made a major comeback.  I purchased this Alexis Bittar one over the holidays and it  has made it’s way into so many outfits, I’ve even surprised myself!

Jump Into Spring

It’s no secret that I love jumpsuits. I can’t get enough of them. We all have that ‘something’ that we gravitate towards and we all probably own too much of whatever it is. Whether it’s jumpsuits, sneakers, dainty lingerie, oversized sweaters, preppy stripes, or active wear, I’d bet that you have a fashion vice too. Mine happens to be jumpsuits and since I was feeling as though I was on the verge of having too many in my closet I backed off the purchasing train for a while. That is, until I noticed this little number by Self Portrait, which had been lingering in my ‘favorites’ folder for quite some time, go on sale 🙌.

It is, by far, my favorite and most glamorous and detailed jumpsuit. The silhouette and cutouts are insane! The fit, the built in bandeau, the thick lace, the buttons, the slim leg line, the exposed zipper, everything. In my opinion, it’s perfect. This brand also designs fabulous dresses and, along with the originality and endless boundaries of this brand, comes a higher price tag.  Fortunately, I was able to find this jumpsuit for more than half off and yes, it was as if I heard angels singing when it happened. You may be laughing (or scoffing) but it’s true. I suppose my illimitable hours scouring the Internet for deals has its perks.

Below, I’ve curated a huge list of gorgeous jumpsuits from casual to trendy to cocktail party ready and everywhere in between. Different styles. Different price points. And, most importantly, for different body types.  I want to encourage you to own the style you feel most comfortable with but also challenge you to get out of your comfort zone and to elevate your style in a different way. Yes, I’m saying that you too can and should wear a jumpsuit. Start with this curated list and wear one with confidence.  Similar to an LBD, you’ll find yourself reaching for it more than you thought you would.

*tip: if you see a jumpsuit from this list and they don’t have your size — let them know! They will email you when your size becomes available 🙂

Simitri Bags – The Beauty of Whimsy

If you follow my Instagram and Facebook accounts (@ChicByAlisonRose), you have already seen my posts on bag designer, ‘Simitri Bags.’ After being gifted a black and white ikat print bag following our photo shoot and styling sesh,  I immediately filled it up with all of my goods.  And I’ve been carrying it around ever since.  I have gotten so many compliments on this bag, it’s insane.  People are grabbing their phones to pull up her website, www.simitridesigns.com, on the spot, to search for the perfect bag to order.  With a discount code (10OFF), people have been floored at how affordable and stylishly chic her bags are.

I was asked to collaborate with head designer, Gayatri Chopra, who operates out of India, Dallas and Philadelphia, along with fellow bloggers, @ModaNinja and @_Mosef_ (check them out on Instagram!).  After choosing our outfits and accessorizing the looks,  we had a girls-girl kind of day.  With faux cocktails in hand and a plethora of whimsical and quirky handbags to choose from, we went at the photo shoot with wild abandon.  It was the kind of group that just ‘clicked’ and felt very comfortable from the beginning.  And I think you can see that level of ease in the photos, who were taken by equally at-ease photographer @Wyche_studios.  It was as if we have been friends forever and just happened to be catching up over cocktails and handbags strewn across the floor.

Black and White Aztec Ikat print bag shop here.

Above is an evening look with the ‘Shimmer Zari Briefcase’ and, as you can see, it is the perfect blend of elegant and chic.  I envision wearing it with an outfit like you see here or just as easily with ripped jeans, a t-shirt and oversized sweater.   Click here to order.

In these photos, I am wearing:

White Cape Jacket

Escada Black Pants from a long time ago when I worked for the brand. Similar here.  Other options I love (on sale!) here and here.

My Alexis Bittar choker is sold out but similar here and here.

Cuffs are Stella and Dot.  Contact my friend, Beth here to purchase.

The red caged sandals are by Alexandre Birman, (a major deal I found on Revolve Clothing), which most of this outfit was purchased.  Similar styles can be found here and here.

The photos above feature a cocktail party look with the ‘Tassle Chunky’ clutch. This is such a fun clutch that can be used in so many ways!  From a girls night out, dinner dates, cocktail parties and beyond.  I love how fun this bag is and the way the tassles swish around.  Anything with tassles or fringe and I’m hooked. Every time.  Shop the bag here.

Blue dress is an old Alice and Olivia dress I’ve had in my closet for years.  I found a very similar style here and here.

Over The Knee Boots and Luxe Outerwear

I’m sure you’ve all realized by now that over the knee boots aren’t going anywhere.  They’ve been in stores for the past couple of years and don’t show any signs of disappearing any time soon.  In fact, the styles keep evolving and the length of the boots keep moving further and further up the thigh. And I can’t get enough of them.

Here I’m wearing the sensational M. Gemi brand grey suede stiletto.  These boots are so lush and impeccably designed.  This company quickly became a favorite of mine when I discovered their Italian-made, all leather shoes about 6 months ago.  From their lace-up flats & ankle boots, to their oxfords, pumps and OTK boots, this brand has me keeping a “to buy” list that keeps growing and growing … The hardest part for me is deciding which pair to order next.  The prices are on point as well because they (you guessed it!) have cut out the middle man and sell directly to the customer.  What does that mean for you?  It means you get an insanely gorgeous pair of ALL leather shoes (including the soles, people) for an insanely reasonable price. In addition to that, when you use my exclusive code, alison143, at checkout, you get an additional 20% off 🙂 Yay! Shop M. Gemi Here.  For other styles I love click here, here, here & here.

These black beauties with grommet detail (pictured above) have been in my closet for years.  They are designed by LK Bennett and I’ve worn them more times than I can count.  Since they are flat, with barely any heel, they are one of my most versatile pair of boots.  Even when I’m having a casual day, I can add a little bit of edge and luxury to my outfit when I throw these on.  For options similar to this, shop here, here, here, here, & here.

Now, lets talk fur and leather .  Two of my all-time favorite textures to wear.  Both fur and leather add dimension to an outfit and can break up an otherwise plain or simple outfit.  Likewise, they can compliment an extravagant or luxurious outfit just as well, making both textures by go-to options for both casual and dressy events.  Their versatility is so great that you’ll find yourself reaching for both options more often than you thought you would.  Pictured above are two of my favorite coats this season.  An Elizabeth and James French navy fur coat and a black Mackage coat with leather sleeves.  Both are equally versatile and have been worn several times already this season.  I believe every girl needs a bit of fur and leather in their closet.  Hop on the trend by shopping these links:

Detox and De-Bloat After The Holidays

“The Holidays”.  I’m fairly certain we all have good intentions when these two words roll off our tongues at the beginning of the season. “I’m going to do better this year,” “I’m not going to eat as many cookies or drink as much wine,” “I’m going to work out (yeah,ok) through the holiday season”. Yes. I will. Until your Mothers delicious, soft, nutty cookies (we call them Kolachki’s in our family) are staring at you from the cookie tray and you hear a little voice in your head that says, “it’s only once a year I see these bad boys in a cookie arrangement”. And off we go. On a wonderful, terrible, glorious, glutinous, supremely enjoyable, get on our stretchy pants joyride. And it feels so good…until it doesn’t.

How can we go from laughing and giggling our way to the cookie jar, wine bar, prosciutto bar, or whatever bar to feeling defeated and, quite frankly, jiggly, after seeing our mid-sections, backsides, and love handles blow up like balloons in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Well, don’t panic. Not yet anyway. We’ve all been there, we can all relate and I, dear friends, am here to tell you that it’s not as bad as you think. I have a few quick and easy remedies that have helped me debloat and detoxify my body many times before.  You can try all of these or a combination of a few.  Two of the most important factors for me while de-bloating is cutting down on salt and dairy (dairy has an adverse reaction in my body).  The absolute most important thing, in my opinion, is DO NOT drink alcohol while detoxing your body.  Makes sense, right?

1. Upon rising every morning, drink one cup warm water with fresh squeezed lemon juice. Drink a full 8 ounces before eating or drinking anything else. Lemons aid in digestion, have anti-inflammatory effects, combat free radical damage, boost your immune system AND (my favorite benefit) decrease wrinkles and acne.  I drink this every morning, 365 days a year, whether I am detoxing or not.

2.  Lyfe Tea. This stuff is amazing.  It’s a 14 day tea detox made with all natural ingredients.  It’s main ingredient is “miracle tree” Moringa Oleifera.  One cup in the morning plus one cup in the evening will set you on the right track to a healthier you (in addition to heathy meals).  Health benefits of Moringa include, but are not limited to, anti-inflammatory effects, aids in digestion, heightens mental clarity, anti-aging benefits, and boosts immune system.  Click here to order.

3. Detoxifying baths 1-2 times/week while cleansing. A detox bath is one of the easiest and most natural ways to help facilitate flushing toxins out of our system.  Pour 1 cup baking soda, 2 cups Epsom salt and a few drops of organic essential oil (my favorites are lavender and rose) in a hot tub. Play music, light candles and RELAX. Epsom salt & baking soda have many healing properties such as reduce inflammation, ease muscle tension, improve absorption of nutrients, and flush toxins and heavy metals from the cells.  I even give our young boys this same bath due to its positive effects on the body. There are several brands of Epsom Salt in stores, however, I use this one.  Similarly, there are many brands of organic essential oils on the market.  I use this one or this one. **If you’re pregnant or have diabetes STOP HERE.  Ask a healthcare professional before taking the plunge.

4. Dry brushing. This sounds weird but it works! Before showering or before a bath at night, use a natural, DRY bristle brush all over your body.  In long strokes, use a sweeping motion starting at the bottom of your feet and move up toward your heart (when you get to your chest and back, brush down, keeping in mind you should move in the direction of your heart).  I recommend using a brush with a long handle so you can reach the middle of your back without straining.  The benefits are, but are not limited to, reducing cellulite (can I get a hallelujah?), aids in lymphatic drainage (decreases toxins), increases blood flow, tightens skin, reduces clogged pores, and aids in digestion.  Please remember both your body and the brush should be completely dry. You can find them at any grocery or drug store but click here for an inexpensive one.

5. ItWorks body wraps. Omg!! These things are A-MAZING! The body wraps, made with natural ingredients, reduce cellulite, firm and tone skin, improve skin texture and tightness, among other awesome benefits. And yes, this is the truth. It does all of that.  I do a series of four wraps twice a year, however, if you want to do multiple body parts, you may find yourself doing them more frequently. I may be doing an extra one this year as the benefits I’ve seen are astounding! Click here to order.

6. Work out or, at the very least, get moving! During a detox, I keep exercise to a minimum with lower impact, relaxing, and soul-filling exercises such as yoga, pilates, walking, etc. I believe these types of exercises help to clear our minds and regain positive thinking mostly because we’ll be eliminating, not only toxins from our bodies, but toxins from our minds.  In my opinion,  this is a good way to refocus our energy and de-clutter our minds. You’ll be on the right path to a better you faster than you thought possible.

7. Common sense eating! Eat loads of organic berries, salads with fresh squeezed lemon juice and lime juice (no dressing or very little dressing), vegetables, lean meats and other healthy food choices.

In my opinion,  for first timers, you should stay on the detox course for 1 week. Touch up cleanses/detoxes after that can be 2-3 days.
