Hello! It’s been a long time since I posted to the blog but since so many of you have reached out about my constant bracelet stacking (yes, it’s a problem), I decided it was time to link my favorites here. I worked with the amazing Marlyn Schiff, who is a local jewelry designer, and styled 7 different stacks for you to choose from. Thats right, 7 stacks styled and ready for purchase. The best news? Marlyn is having a buy one get one FREE sale right now. Just make sure to write ‘ChicByAlisonRose’in the notes section during checkout and VOILA! You’ve got yourself an amazing deal.
The days are long. The sun is shining. School’s out for summer. Vacation season is upon us. Our sanity, energy, and self-confidence are running pleasantly high as summer gets underway. But it wasn’t all that long ago that we thought the dreadful winter would never leave, and looked forward to a long hot bath or shower at the end of a tiring, cold, and dreary day. There is nothing quite like stepping out of the bath or shower onto soft bath mats, wrapping yourself in a plush bathrobe, and being surrounded by beautiful spa-like accessories. This experience can nourish your soul more than you can imagine.
I’ve written a lot about cleansing and detoxifying my body through drinking warm water with lemon and combining Epsom salt, baking soda, and essential oils for long bath soaks. Most recently, I’ve incorporated a product called ‘8 greens’ into our entire family’s daily regimen and my list of ‘Beauty Counter’ products grow by the minute (see my previous post here). I’m health-conscious, and I strive for a clean environment every day.
When I started a recent home renovation, one of my projects was to turn my master bath into a space that felt like an at-home spa. I value being present and creating an environment where you can “shut off” all the mental stimulation, so creating a zen-like home experience was a priority for me.
It was easier than you’d think! My fabulous interior designer from Priscilla Fenlin Interiors has taught me so much about home décor. One thing she suggests is to hit online sites like Wayfair for plush towels, bath mats, and accessories. And, of course, you can never go wrong with Homegoods or Restoration Hardware.
Here are 5 ways you can turn your home bathroom into your own spa-like sanctuary.
1. Score spa-like products
Essential oils, Epsom salt, and baking soda are a must, as is a hard-bristle brush for body brushing. I have an entire routine dedicated to keeping my body and skin healthy, and that involves a weekly bath with the aforementioned products. Essential oils have such a positive impact on our overall well-being. I have diffusers all over my house, especially in my bathroom so that it can smell like a luxurious spa at any given moment. I diffuse Doterra Essential Oils only (I have an affinity for this brand). The Epsom salt/baking soda combination have amazing anti-inflammatory benefits so you can count on looking and feeling your best!
2. Get organized You want to make it easy to access and use – day and night – the many beauty products you’ve invested in to help keep your skin youthful, hydrated, and healthy. I’ve had a beauty routine for many years and the list of “to do” items seems to be growing by the year! I have a slew of amazing facial products, and I am a huge believer in using as many natural products as possible. I find that the use of chemical-filled products does more damage than good. Check out this beauty product organizer to easily keep an eye on all your goods.
Bonus: don’t forget organization for your jewelry and small accessories! I like this crisp white accessory tray.
3. Let it rain
A quick and easy way to upgrade your bathroom experience is to switch out your shower head. Remember the last time you stayed at a hotel that had an amazing oversized shower head with an amazing stream of water that seemed to wrap around your body, and you thought to yourself, ‘I have GOT to get me one of these’? Well, you can get yourself one of those. It’s that easy. And it will take your relaxation to the next level. (Not to mention cut down time spent washing and rinsing hair!) Check out this detachable faucet and hand shower or this heavenly oversized shower head.
4. Wrap yourself in plush comfort
Plush, oversized towels and a comfy robe are other ways to add to the experience of “spa-like” living. (Think: luxury hotel spa. It will feel like a getaway every time!) Don’t forget the plush bathmat as you step out of your bath or shower refreshed with happy feet.
5. Make a statement The first thing your eyes will focus on every time you walk in the bathroom is the vanity and all its elements – lights, sink, hardware, mirror, and all. Take the time to pick out a collection of pieces that fit your style (together), and elevate the beauty and design of your bathroom. Here are some of my favorite items on Wayfair right now:
It is no surprise that in the Northeast winter and early spring months, our jackets become our whole outfit. It’s the first thing that people see, the first style impression you will make, and likely the ONLY ‘outfit’ you’ll wear while running errands around town. It’s simply too cold to take your jacket off in many circumstances. I’ve been sitting in front of my fireplace as my two boys play outside in the drizzly rain for 3 hours (#nolie) and I haven’t taken off my fuzzy ‘blanket coat’ the entire time. And no, I’m not planning to head out there any time soon today. I’m holding the fort down as close to the fireplace as I can get. Yet, still, I’m wearing my jacket.
I’ve shared before that bargain shopping for designer items is invigorating to me. There is nothing quite like finding a designer item you love, for a price that is far below the retail price. When I discovered The RealReal was having a capsule collection with The Kardashians, I was forced (ok, could not resist) to check it out. And I’m glad I did. This military inspired jacket designed by MiuMiu was part of Kylie Jenner’s closet and has a Chanel/Balmain-esque feel. The fabulous boucle fabrication and gold button detailing are reminiscent of a designer runway.
For those who aren’t familiar, TheRealReal is a designer, second hand online shopping destination where you can find gently used designer items such as Chanel, Hermes, Prada, Carolina Herrera and more. It is AMAZING! Why spend full price when you can find designer duds for so much less?
This is another designer, who I have been following for years and have coveted a jacket from (pictured above). Nicole Benisti knows how to do casual, everyday fur in the coolest way possible (can I get an AMEN?). I finally ordered one this winter when two of my old coats had seen better days. I am so happy I took the plunge! I can wear this jacket to -15degrees. YES! -15degrees! With this winter still going strong, this jacket has earned its weight in gold. And yes, it’s true, you really can wear this in frigid temps and manage to stay warm. Check out the blue fur on the hood! There are several colors to choose from and all are equally as beautiful. Happy Shopping!
I’ve linked a few jackets on sale below. If you’re anything like me, you love to buy end of season sales so you’re ahead of the game when the next season begins …
It seemed to me that this was THE perfect jumpsuit for Italy. It is reminiscent of my Grandmothers “house coat,” as she liked to call it, and evoked memories of making gnocci with meat sauce and pizza fritte alongside her on Sunday afternoons. And what else would lemons remind you of if not the sprawling landscapes of the Tuscan hillside and the acres of lemon trees found throughout one of the most beautiful countries in the world? Besides being arguably one of the healthiest and tastiest fruits, they happily remind me of Grandma … and Italy.
Unfortunately, this exact jumpsuit by ‘For Love and Lemons’, sold out quite possibly the same second as I hit the ‘check out’ button and, therefore, I was not able to bring it to Italy. After waiting a few weeks for it to come back in stock, I was able to wear it on a recent trip to New York City and, as it turned out, it was the perfect outfit for a hot, summer day in the city. I was stopped at least three times about this jumpsuit while walking the streets of NY. It has since been RESTOCKED (yay!) and I have linked it below for you. I’ve also added similar styles and price points for every budget. If you don’t currently own a jumpsuit, I would encourage you to start here!
I am beyond excited to share my feature in the online magazine, ‘The Zoe Report’. The inimitable stylist, Rachel Zoe, has long been my style muse since her days styling the Backstreet Boys in the 90’s! It is such an honor to be recognized in this major fashion and beauty magazine. A special thank you to Lindsey Clark, my friend and photographer, who helps make our photo shoots creative, care free and crazy fun all at the same time. I couldn’t have done this without you!
