When Spring Plays Hide and Seek

Any of you who live in the Northeast know that this spring season has been playing a very long and very taunting game of hide and go seek.  One week it’s 80 degrees and the next week it’s 50 degrees, which makes getting dressed complicated.  Especially when we are yearning for the warmth from the sun and the ability to dress in off-the-shoulder tops and toe-baring sandals.  Well, there is a solution to the madness and there are, in fact, ways of dressing appropriately for this insanely transitional weather we have going on.

Take a look at this outfit I have styled here, for example.  I pulled one of my favorite asymmetrical, off the shoulder shoulder shift dresses out of my closet and paired it with my over the knee suede boots.  Who cares that I had to get them out of storage because I was overzealous in putting away all my “winter” gear.  I’ll grab these bad boys any day of the year if the weather permits.  And if that means that I have to wear them in May, when it’s suppose to be at least 70 degrees, than fine.  I’ll do it.

Side note: My friend and photographer is a photojournalist by profession and is as creative as they come.  Since we had her house and her gorgeous daughter on hand for this shoot, we got creative and had so much fun pretending like we dress like this even as we feed our magazine worthy children honey bunches of oats 🙂 Not true obvi.  But I have worn this dress and boots several times — out to dinner, to a new years eve party, and to a Christmas party.  Just not when I’m serving my family food and arranging flowers.

I love how my skin plays peek-a-boo in this photo.  That’s precisely why I love OTK boots so much.  They look wildly chic over skinny jeans and tastefully sexy with a dress.

This last photo is all about the ear cuff and cocktail ring.  Ear cuffs are MAJOR this season and are so different from what we’ve seen in the past few years.  I love changing things up and wearing trends so I jumped on this one early.  I’ve attached links to some ear cuffs here and here as well as transitional spring dresses here and here  over the knee boots here and here.  Happy Shopping 🙂

Fringe Benefits

If you have followed my social media accounts for more than one day, you know how much I love fringe.  Similarly, if you have shopped in any store this spring, you know that fringe is on EVERYTHING this season; bags, shoes, clothing and accessories.  Fringe is the one adornment that, in my opinion, does not get old.  And I can’t get enough.  Check out the movement on this fringe skirt.  Believe me, I know you will not be twirling and dancing on a daily basis like you see me doing in these photos but fringe has such a playful vibe even through basic movements like walking.

Here I am wearing a fabulous fringe skirt I found on the website Forward by Elyse Walker.  It was on MAJOR sale (two of my very favorite words) so I scooped it up and wore it with another one of my favorite pieces; a body suit by Twenty, which I found on sale at Revolve Clothing.  Whether I’m shopping online or in a store, I always take my time searching in the sale section first; I often find amazing, quality pieces in the sale section at a fraction of the retail cost.  If you’re like me and enjoy shopping on a regular basis, this is the most logical, economical way to shop.  I have linked a similar Tamara Mellon skirt (also on sale! Yay!) here. I’ve also linked an awesome bodysuit suitable for spring/summer here.

I’ve posted a few more photos below since I want to bring attention to the 90’s trend, which is having a major moment right now; chokers.  OMG.  I can’t believe this trend is back but I love it!  I’ve worn this gold choker several times and I do not plan on storing it away any time soon. I’ve worn it alone or layered with other necklaces and, in my opinion, it elevates my outfit every time.  It was more versatile than I thought it would be through the winter and into spring…and I’m excited to continue wearing it through the summer.

Below are links to a bunch of fringe options to shop for spring/summer.  I’ve linked many different items here, from shoes, bags and necklaces to skirts, bathing suits and hair accessories — so please bare with me! I couldn’t stop linking since I’m a bit obsessed with this trend! Happy Shopping 🙂

Resort Wear

imageOk guys. Here it is.  A crop top and high-waisted skirt combination in an “of the moment” flowery print.  It could not have been better for our recent trip to Mexico.  It is so comfortable, flirty and fun — perfect for any warm weather vacation.  And the best part? It’s on MAJOR sale right now (links below).  I’ve also attached links for chokers since this 90’s staple has made a major comeback.  I purchased this Alexis Bittar one over the holidays and it  has made it’s way into so many outfits, I’ve even surprised myself!

Jump Into Spring

It’s no secret that I love jumpsuits. I can’t get enough of them. We all have that ‘something’ that we gravitate towards and we all probably own too much of whatever it is. Whether it’s jumpsuits, sneakers, dainty lingerie, oversized sweaters, preppy stripes, or active wear, I’d bet that you have a fashion vice too. Mine happens to be jumpsuits and since I was feeling as though I was on the verge of having too many in my closet I backed off the purchasing train for a while. That is, until I noticed this little number by Self Portrait, which had been lingering in my ‘favorites’ folder for quite some time, go on sale 🙌.

It is, by far, my favorite and most glamorous and detailed jumpsuit. The silhouette and cutouts are insane! The fit, the built in bandeau, the thick lace, the buttons, the slim leg line, the exposed zipper, everything. In my opinion, it’s perfect. This brand also designs fabulous dresses and, along with the originality and endless boundaries of this brand, comes a higher price tag.  Fortunately, I was able to find this jumpsuit for more than half off and yes, it was as if I heard angels singing when it happened. You may be laughing (or scoffing) but it’s true. I suppose my illimitable hours scouring the Internet for deals has its perks.

Below, I’ve curated a huge list of gorgeous jumpsuits from casual to trendy to cocktail party ready and everywhere in between. Different styles. Different price points. And, most importantly, for different body types.  I want to encourage you to own the style you feel most comfortable with but also challenge you to get out of your comfort zone and to elevate your style in a different way. Yes, I’m saying that you too can and should wear a jumpsuit. Start with this curated list and wear one with confidence.  Similar to an LBD, you’ll find yourself reaching for it more than you thought you would.

*tip: if you see a jumpsuit from this list and they don’t have your size — let them know! They will email you when your size becomes available 🙂

Simitri Bags – The Beauty of Whimsy

If you follow my Instagram and Facebook accounts (@ChicByAlisonRose), you have already seen my posts on bag designer, ‘Simitri Bags.’ After being gifted a black and white ikat print bag following our photo shoot and styling sesh,  I immediately filled it up with all of my goods.  And I’ve been carrying it around ever since.  I have gotten so many compliments on this bag, it’s insane.  People are grabbing their phones to pull up her website,, on the spot, to search for the perfect bag to order.  With a discount code (10OFF), people have been floored at how affordable and stylishly chic her bags are.

I was asked to collaborate with head designer, Gayatri Chopra, who operates out of India, Dallas and Philadelphia, along with fellow bloggers, @ModaNinja and @_Mosef_ (check them out on Instagram!).  After choosing our outfits and accessorizing the looks,  we had a girls-girl kind of day.  With faux cocktails in hand and a plethora of whimsical and quirky handbags to choose from, we went at the photo shoot with wild abandon.  It was the kind of group that just ‘clicked’ and felt very comfortable from the beginning.  And I think you can see that level of ease in the photos, who were taken by equally at-ease photographer @Wyche_studios.  It was as if we have been friends forever and just happened to be catching up over cocktails and handbags strewn across the floor.

Above is an evening look with the ‘Shimmer Zari Briefcase’ and, as you can see, it is the perfect blend of elegant and chic.  I envision wearing it with an outfit like you see here or just as easily with ripped jeans, a t-shirt and oversized sweater.   Click here to order.

In these photos, I am wearing:

White Cape Jacket

Escada Black Pants from a long time ago when I worked for the brand. Similar here.  Other options I love (on sale!) here and here.

My Alexis Bittar choker is sold out but similar here and here.

Cuffs are Stella and Dot.  Contact my friend, Beth here to purchase.

The red caged sandals are by Alexandre Birman, (a major deal I found on Revolve Clothing), which most of this outfit was purchased.  Similar styles can be found here and here.

The photos above feature a cocktail party look with the ‘Tassle Chunky’ clutch. This is such a fun clutch that can be used in so many ways!  From a girls night out, dinner dates, cocktail parties and beyond.  I love how fun this bag is and the way the tassles swish around.  Anything with tassles or fringe and I’m hooked. Every time.  Shop the bag here.

Blue dress is an old Alice and Olivia dress I’ve had in my closet for years.  I found a very similar style here and here.

Over The Knee Boots and Luxe Outerwear

I’m sure you’ve all realized by now that over the knee boots aren’t going anywhere.  They’ve been in stores for the past couple of years and don’t show any signs of disappearing any time soon.  In fact, the styles keep evolving and the length of the boots keep moving further and further up the thigh. And I can’t get enough of them.

Here I’m wearing the sensational M. Gemi brand grey suede stiletto.  These boots are so lush and impeccably designed.  This company quickly became a favorite of mine when I discovered their Italian-made, all leather shoes about 6 months ago.  From their lace-up flats & ankle boots, to their oxfords, pumps and OTK boots, this brand has me keeping a “to buy” list that keeps growing and growing … The hardest part for me is deciding which pair to order next.  The prices are on point as well because they (you guessed it!) have cut out the middle man and sell directly to the customer.  What does that mean for you?  It means you get an insanely gorgeous pair of ALL leather shoes (including the soles, people) for an insanely reasonable price. In addition to that, when you use my exclusive code, alison143, at checkout, you get an additional 20% off 🙂 Yay! Shop M. Gemi Here.  For other styles I love click here, here, here & here.

These black beauties with grommet detail (pictured above) have been in my closet for years.  They are designed by LK Bennett and I’ve worn them more times than I can count.  Since they are flat, with barely any heel, they are one of my most versatile pair of boots.  Even when I’m having a casual day, I can add a little bit of edge and luxury to my outfit when I throw these on.  For options similar to this, shop here, here, here, here, & here.

Now, lets talk fur and leather .  Two of my all-time favorite textures to wear.  Both fur and leather add dimension to an outfit and can break up an otherwise plain or simple outfit.  Likewise, they can compliment an extravagant or luxurious outfit just as well, making both textures by go-to options for both casual and dressy events.  Their versatility is so great that you’ll find yourself reaching for both options more often than you thought you would.  Pictured above are two of my favorite coats this season.  An Elizabeth and James French navy fur coat and a black Mackage coat with leather sleeves.  Both are equally versatile and have been worn several times already this season.  I believe every girl needs a bit of fur and leather in their closet.  Hop on the trend by shopping these links:

dE ROSAIRO – The Brand, The Woman & The Vision

I am so excited to write this blog post and to share this incredible brand with all of you.  Founder and Creative Director, Nishika de Rosairo, is one beautiful woman inside and out.  Not only does she make fabulous clothing with quality craftsmanship and unique designs, but she has also created a socially responsible brand, which supports and empowers women.  During our first conversation over the phone, I was immediately inspired by Nishika’s radiant and positive personality.  It was electrifying to speak with her.  I felt like I could conquer the world after our in-depth discussion about fashion, life and creating something more than simply good design. She is at the forefront of a movement which could change the world – one fashion garment at a time.

As you can imagine, I couldn’t wait to wear her asymmetrical, original designs, which are perfect for the modern woman who does not want to compromise luxury for fast fashion.  Since layering is part of my every day mantra, I stayed true to my myself and piled on her clothing for this shoot.  The dE ROSAIRO brand makes it exceptionally easy to achieve that ‘not trying too hard cool-girl vibe’.  Just start with a jacket and cardigan, like I did here, and layer, layer, layer.  Work with clothing from your own closet and hop on the ‘Less Is More’ bandwagon.  It’s not always about how much clothing you have in your closet, rather the quality and craftsmanship of the designs you own.  It is equally important to know, exactly, WHO made the clothing and WHAT type of environment they work in.  I don’t know about you, but wearing clothing from an ethical company like the dE ROSAIRO brand makes me feel like I am helping to make a difference in this world.

I chose to shoot in this skate park in Philadelphia, PA, based on a recommendation from talented Philadelphia photographer @fr_nk (check him out on Instagram!) who took all the photos for this shoot.  I felt we needed a gritty, urban environment to go with the concept of the modern woman who wants wearable, artistic, and versatile separates.  We had so much fun doing this shoot and, thankfully, the skaters were patient with us and gave us all the space we needed!

Becoming an Ambassador for the dE ROSAIRO brand has been an honor and privilege, not only because of their integrity and ethical standards but also because of their support for causes such as ‘Not For Sale,’ a non-profit organization whose mission it is to end human trafficking and slavery.  The woman behind it all is one fabulous human being.  And this is only the beginning…

Invest In Your Fall Wardrobe

Many of you have asked about this outfit I wore in a photo on Instagram so I’m doing a quick blog post on it today, with links for easy shopping.

Long vests are all the rage this fall.  I happen to like styling them with a sleeveless top underneath but as the fall/winter months approach, I will also style them with long sleeve button downs or the ‘making a comeback from the 90’s trend,’ turtleneck.  Yes, you read that correctly.  Turtlenecks are BACK! But this time, they are super fitted and super chic OR oversized and comfy…nowhere in between.  Anyway,  more on turtlenecks in a later blog post.  Back to the long vest trend.

This one is from TopShop at Nordstrom and it’s no surprise that I layered it with 2 tank tops underneath.  Layering just happens to be my thing, whether it’s clothing or jewelry.  I always feel better in layers for some reason.  Partly because I’m perpetually cold but also because I love how layers add dimension to an outfit.  Wearing this vest as a top layer was exceptionally comfortable because it covered my back side and felt flow-y while I was running errands and meeting a friend for lunch.  I also styled it with my fav Michael Grey booties and oh-so-comfortable and slimming DL1961 skinnies (don’t you just love a slimming skinny jean?).

I’ve attached links to long vests in a myriad of price ranges so you can search and shop through these links.  I’m all about making it easy for you so have fun and rock the long vest trend this fall 🙂

Flare Jeans and Fringe: Iconic 70’s Style

Most of us remember Farrah Fawcett’s iconic photo.  You know, the one of her riding a skateboard crouched down looking as cute as ever in her flare jeans and feathered mane (see below).

Well, this leg slimming trend is back and I couldn’t be happier.  A good flare is as versatile as a good skinny jean.  Believe me.  It’s true.  Though it may feel intimidating at first, you’ll quickly realize how many different ways you can wear them.  I’m going to show you how I styled mine for this shoot and I hope that you’ll join me on the ‘feel like you’re walking a mile high’ trend.  If you pair yours with a high wedge sandal or boot, you will literally feel like you are walking among the stars.  I don’t know why but there is something so special about the way a flare jean swishes back and forth at your ankles.  They make you feel as if your legs are as long as a runway models.  Hold on.  Let me stay here for a moment…

OK.  Back to reality.  No, my legs are not nearly as long as a runway models but, nonetheless, my flare jeans still have a slimming effect (and they’re high-waisted to boot!).  I styled my BlankNYC flares  with another trend making a comeback this season: a bodysuit.  I’ve had this Escada version for years, since my days in NYC when I worked for the brand, but they are all over the place in stores now.  I threw on this fringe jacket, another amazing trend, from Alberto Makali and added a fringe clutch and leopard print wooden heeled sandals by DVF.

In the photos below, I paired my flares with an of-the-moment poncho from Free People (there is that fringe again!) and carried another fringe clutch.  I threw on this fabulous feather trimmed hat from Anthropologie because, why not? I love how a hat looks with a side braid and wavy tendrils falling softly around the face.

Lastly, I wore one of my favorite Ikat print dresses both with and without my flare jeans.  This dress was a fun addition to my wardrobe this fall and, just like my flares, I can wear it so many different ways depending on my mood.  Here, you’ll see how I styled them first with the flare jeans and then wore them alone with a pair of booties.  Also, I love to mix and match prints, but be somewhat careful.  If you have the same color-way, like you see here, with the rust color in the clutch matching the rust color in the dress, than you’re ok.  I will always encourage you to have fun with your clothes and with your closet.  Mix and match your clothes with new items you buy for the season.  You can literally reinvent your wardrobe every time you get dressed if you just let go and cast your fashion fears aside 🙂

Let’s Talk About Your #Shoedrobe…

Michael Grey Footwear is a name you should definitely pay attention to.  Founder, Designer, and Shoemaker of Michael Grey Footwear, Michael Grey, knows what he’s doing when it comes to the structure of a shoe.  Add to that his meticulous choosing of the finest leather available and his signature detailing on every shoe and you’ve got yourself, in my opinion, THE up and coming footwear designer of the year.

Michael handcrafts each shoe in Brooklyn, NY and painstakingly makes sure each and every stitch is in its perfect place. When I first tried on a pair of his killer booties, I was floored by how comfortable they were and how they hugged my foot like a pair of slippers.

They immediately brought to mind luxury shoe brand, Manolo Blahnik,  (no joke) because of their exquisite design and ultimate wearability.  You’ll be able to walk for days in these bad boys. And it’s no mistake that Michael has designed them this way.  It was a deliberate and careful decision to make sure men and women alike could actually WEAR his shoes and get to enjoy the beauty and structure of the shoe on an every day basis.  He didn’t want to make a shoe that was simply pretty to look at.  Rather, he wanted to create a beautiful work of art while also providing one of the most comfortable shoes on the planet. Well, touche, Michael! Mission accomplished.

Just look at this bootie!! These beauties came home with me and I can’t wait to wear them to a fundraising event tonight.  Just look at the detail on the heel…you’ll see his signature stripes, sometimes in a contrasting color like you see here, sometimes in the same color as the shoe itself, on many of his designs.  Just gorgeous! And since I’m all about a sexy heel, I was smitten with the sexy, yet very sensible, 3 1/2 inch silver covered heel you see here.  I am literally blown away!

Now, let’s talk oxfords.   Are you surprised that I’m going to say Michael has hit the mark on beautiful design, impeccable detail and comfort? Well, don’t be.

His oxfords are the perfect blend of the aforementioned qualities and are the epitome of a hip, sleek shoe.  Your friends will be swooning over this on-trend staple when you rock a pair with skinnies and an oversized sweater this fall.

Right down to very last detail, Michael Grey Footwear incorporates the most fun, playful linings in their shoes.

Michael Grey Footwear has easily become one of my favorite shoe brands on the market.  I am chomping at the bit to work another pair into my #shoedrobe.  I dare to say, the enthusiasm I have for his footwork will not end any time soon.

Michael Grey Footwear, Founder, Head Designer, and CEO, Michael Mack himself.  What a stand up guy.  It was an honor and privilege to meet him, work with him, and play dress up with his shoes!

The very talented man behind the lens, Harlin Miller Jr.  Also, a great person and one who I consider a privilege to have been photographed by.  Watch out for his work on his website and follow his blog at  Thank you both for making this a fabulous, fun event!
